In Memory of my Brother, Paul Downey. RIP November 11, 2021
A couple of years ago, I created a blog for my Ancestors and separate pages for other family members so we could all connect and have memories to share. And also, to keep on record of when they passed away. Paul would have been 74 years old just three days ago 4/24/1951.
Today I updated a blog page I had created for Paul Downey in May 2023. These blog pages have photos and info so that kids and grandkids may always know their ancestors. Also, so Friends could remember Paul.
My brother Paul passed away on November 11, 2021. I was having health issues at the time that Paul's health started to decline. I had a cancer treatment that kept me and my husband in Houston for 4 months. I was able to be released to go home to Bryan, Tx. on November 8, 2021. I learned of Paul's passing three days later. It was a sad day, especially for his children.
I updated Paul's page because I've had people to ask me what ever happened to Paul.

It's finally Springtime and Gardentime and Bluebonnet Season! 2025
I am in the Springtime Gardening mood. Bluebonnets are everywhere ! This year I am starting all my plants from seed. I've never done this before, except for a few plants. I've learned to make my own potting soil and I have bought so many seeds and I can't wait to see it all into fruition. Prepping and planning is part of the journey !
First, I gathered all my supplies and equipment. Some things I had already. I have the shelf, the plant lights, the plant trays, the seed blocker. The ingredients for a wonderful DIY potting soil. I'm having fun so far.
I am making my potting soil with Coco Coir,
Vermiculite, Perlite, Worm castings and some Black Kow compost, and some of our own compost made from kitchen waste, leaves, twigs, paper, cardboard.
I'm going to try Elm Dirt Plant Juice and Bloom Juice when the plants are transplanted outside into the garden.
This is just a start of all the seeds I'm planting.
I bought these locally, but I've ordered from two organic seed companies online too. Some are getting started inside, and some will get planted outside in the designated pot after the last frost of the season.

After seeds are carefully planted, I cover with a bit of Vermiculite. It helps the seedlings to reach up and sprout.
I used popsicle sticks to label the seedlings.
I'm doing the double cup method of tomatoes and pepper plants. I think it's a genius idea. During the germination period, they both need to be on an electric heat mat.
When the seeds start to sprout, the plastic
bags come off and then they get grow lights.
Handy electric (wireless) scissors, or cardboard cutter.
These came in very handy to cut up cardboard to layer in my soil mix.

We added a new canopy over the patio.
We are blessed with beautiful live oak trees that can be messy but in our case, the leaves are great to add to the compost for the garden. We worked hard all day
then we got a surprise hail storm at 3:00 a.m.
Luckily we didn't have any real damage but it sure sounded loud enough, but it didn't last long.
We had a beautiful day Saturday to do more work and now a lot more leaves and debri to add to our compost.
I'm having fun creating my yardscaping for my plants when it's time to transplant outdoors.
I Love old ladders, rusty wheelbarrows, old doors, rusty planters, metal yard art.
Hopefully we can grow something healthy to eat
and enjoy the outdoors this season.
